Temperatures in Rajasthan to oscillate as winter’s last leg kicks in

January 30, 2017 4:12 PM | Skymet Weather Team

This winter, the temperatures in Northwest India have seen both extremes. By the end of December, the winter chill was not felt in most areas of northwest India but since the start of 2017, winters have made its presence felt and how. But in particular, many places of Haryana and Rajasthan witnessed sub-zero temperatures.

In Rajasthan such adverse temperatures are not seen as of now but the winter chill is still making its presence felt. Many areas of the top 10 coldest places of the plains in India are still in the region of Rajasthan which is not a surprise as the normal minimums for Rajasthan hover around the 6-8°C mark.

Many areas of the state are under thick layer of fog which is persisting due to low temperatures, less wind speed and high humidity. Humidity is high due to the recent rainy spell over the region.

As of now the temperatures are near normal in Rajasthan but there is an alteration in weather pattern in sight. The feeble western disturbance over the Western Himalayas is likely to move away allowing cold northwesterly winds to blow over entire northwest India including Rajasthan. This will result in drop in temperatures by 2-3°C over North and Central Rajasthan in next 48 hours.

From February 1, the temperatures will start rising again till February 3. Around February 3 another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to show up over the hills of North India. This will allow the temperatures to rise again but only for a while. Post the passage of this Western Disturbance, temperatures will fall again.

This ongoing see-saw of temperature variation will continue till mid-February. Thereafter the normal minimum temperatures of Rajasthan will rise clearing the path for spring season to settle in.
