Parts of North India have been witnessing dry spell for a long time now. The last rains that Northern plains observed were during the fag end of January. The reason for the prevailing dry weather can be well associated with the absence of any significant weather system.
Moreover, due to this dry spell, temperatures across most parts of North India have also been witnessing an upward trend. Most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and adjoining areas have been observing temperatures settling 1-2°C above normal.
However, now, Skymet Weather reiterates that North India is expected to observe a rise in minimums by 3-4°C in the next 2-3 days. The reason for this can be attributed to a fresh Western Disturbance which is likely to approach the Western Himalayas by the evening of February 14. The day temperatures are also predicted to witness a further significant rise. Delhi-NCR and West Uttar Pradesh are expected to be warmer than the other parts of the northern plains.
During the approach of this weather system, cloudy to partly cloudy weather is expected over Punjab and parts of Haryana. Isolated rain and thundershowers are expected to show up over northern parts of Punjab during the weekend. Until then, though, the weather is likely to remain dry.
The winter morning chill which is still felt is also expected to vanish from North India.
