Temperatures in North India remain below normal amidst gradual rise

March 19, 2015 1:39 PM |

pleasant weather After the spell of rain on March 15 and March 16, the day temperatures across North India had dropped by a big margin. In the hills a drop of about 10-15 degrees was observed, while in the plains the drop in the temperatures were about 5-10 degrees. For instance, the maximum temperature in Delhi had settled at 19.6°C on March 15, Sunday, which was 9 degrees below the normal average for the month. Karnal in Haryana saw the maximum settle 6 degrees below normal, while in Ambala and Chandigarh the maximum had recorded 5 and 4 degrees below the normal, respectively.

However, the temperatures have shown a gradual rise in the last two to three days. For example Ambala recoded 25°C as the day temperature on Wednesday, while the national capital Delhi saw the maximum settle at 26°C. Ludhiana in Punjab also observed the day temperature rise and settle at 25.1°C on Wednesday.

Up in the hills, the temperature in Banihal in Jammu and Kashmir jumped from 1.2°C on March 16, Monday to 11.3°C on March 18, Wednesday. Similarly Batote saw the temperature settle at 17°C from 1.4°C on March 16.

But it is to be noted that these temperatures are still below normal, both in the hills and the plains. The widespread weather activity in the last few days and windy conditions are not allowing a rapid rise in temperatures, which are expected to remain the same for another 4-5 days.

On Friday, there is again a feeble weather system expected to come up in Jammu and Kashmir. This effect of the system will however, be confined to the hills. But there will be another system coming up on March 24, lasting till March 26. During the first day (March 24), the hills and parts of Punjab will experience some weather activity, while on March 25, light scattered activity will be observed in Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra. Isolated activity will also be witnessed over Jharkhand, Odisha and Northeast India. During this period, the temperatures are again expected to drop.
