Updated on Jan 8, 2018: As reiterated by Skymet Weather, during the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures in Madhya Pradesh have seen a significant drop of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. However, today, minimum temperatures across the state have dropped by around 2 degrees Celsius.

In fact, Betul recorded its minimum at a mere 2.3 degrees Celsius, which happens to be the coldest in the plains of India today. Temperature here had dropped by four degrees. Many places also saw a drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

Cold winds from north will continue and West Madhya Pradesh will see a further drop in temperatures, for the next two to three days at least, until January 10. Due to fall in minimum temperatures, isolated places of West and South Madhya Pradesh may come under the grip of Cold Wave conditions. However, January 11 onward, both day and night temperatures will start increasing due to change in wind direction as a fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas. This system will result in reversal of wind direction from northerly to southeasterly.

During that time, temperatures will see an increase once again, and cold wave conditions will abate resulting in reduction of winter chill from that region.

Published on Jan 7, 2018: Cold Wave conditions had been prevailing over many parts of Madhya Pradesh between December 28 to January 1. Since then, temperatures had been on a rise due to change in wind direction from northeasterly to easterly and southeasterly.

However, since the last 24 hours, minimum temperatures have dropped by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over many parts of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Now, many places which were experiencing above normal minimums have started to see minimums close to their normal levels only and even below normal in some pockets.

Similarly, due to cold northeasterly winds blowing from the snow-clad mountains of the Western Himalayas, maximum temperatures have seen a significant drop over many parts of Madhya Pradesh. Sagar, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Satna, Guna have seen a fall in maximums by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius.

Maximums which were settling between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius, have now dropped to 20 and 24 degrees Celsius. Now, we expect further drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures until January 10.

Thereafter, winds will once again change their course and start blowing from southeast which will be warm and humid in nature. Minimum temperatures during that time will witness an increase once again. However, the fall of temperatures from today to January 10 will not see Cold Wave conditions making a comeback over most parts of the state. Nevertheless, the presence of Cold Wave conditions in isolated areas cannot be ruled out.
