Temperatures in Gujarat to remain under check, pre-Monsoon rains likely around May 14

May 7, 2019 12:19 PM |

May is the hottest month for Gujarat where in the maximum temperature of the state touches 45˚C, barring the coastal districts. In fact, there is a difference of about 6˚C to 8˚C between the temperatures of coastal and inland districts.

Generally, places in Coastal Gujarat such as Porbandar, Dwarka, Junagadh, Veraval and Valsad observe less heat as winds from the Arabian Sea help in keeping the temperatures under check.

Meanwhile, in rest of Gujarat places like Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Kandla and Surendranagar witness hot winds from north/northwest which at times even leads to extreme heat in these places.

Currently, normal temperatures are being recorded in Gujarat. The maximum in coastal places are settling near 35˚C, while inland areas are observing day temperature settling close to 41˚C. Currently there isn't any heat wave condition in the state of Gujarat.

In the coming 10 days also, we do not expect much change in the temperatures over Gujarat. But day temperatures may continue to drop 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.

After 24 hours, a Western Disturbance will approach the Western Himalayas and its induced cyclonic circulation will develop over parts of Rajasthan. Due to these weather systems, rains and thundershowers with strong winds will commence over parts of North India around May 9 and 10.

Due to the effect of these systems, winds blowing over Gujarat will also change direction from north/northwesterly to west/southwesterly. This will further help in keeping the temperatures under check.

Moreover, between May 14 and 16, parts of Gujarat may also get affected by these systems. During this period, dust storm followed by rain and thundershower activities will occur in Gujarat.
