Temperatures in Delhi on a rising spree

February 19, 2015 4:07 PM |

Warm weather in Delhi Temperatures in Delhi have consistently been rising for the last 3-4 days, leading to uncomfortable and warm conditions in the city. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 28.9°C at the Safdarjung Observatory on Wednesday, which is 5 degrees above the normal average. The night temperature also settled 6 degrees above normal at 17°C on Thursday morning, which is the second highest minimum recorded in last ten years. The previous highest was 17.4°C, observed on February 26, 2006.

The Palam Observatory saw the maximum and minimum temperatures settle a notch higher at 29.3°C and 17.9°C, respectively.

Back to back western disturbances have given snow in the higher reaches and rain in the lower parts of the hills, while in the plains it has been confined to the foothills only, particularly in Punjab and Haryana. However, the weather systems have changed the winds to southeasterlies due to which the humidity levels have increased in Delhi. Obscurity levels have also risen and suspended particles are not allowing the heat to escape due to which the temperatures are rising.

Also there hasn’t been a drop of rain in the city this month so far, which is a little unusual. As we look at ten year record, Delhi has received rain every year during the month of February and the number of rainy days 2-3 on an average.

However, in the next two days the temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3 degrees. And according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India we can expect some rain in the plains including Delhi from February 25 onwards as a Western Disturbance is likely to affect the hills by February 23.
