Plains of Northwest India are presently witnessing pleasant and warm weather, unlike the usual chilly weather conditions during the last week of December.
As predicted by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, both maximum and minimum temperatures have increased across northwestern plains of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. They are settling above the average normal temperatures by at least 2-3 degrees.
Delhi recorded day temperature of 24.5°C on Monday, which was four degrees above normal. While, night temperature was 10.6°C, also four degrees above normal.
Rise in mercury can be attributed to the anti-cyclonic circulation marked over Rajasthan, which has altered the wind pattern from cold and dry northwesterly winds to westerlies.
As per Skymet Weather, westerly winds will continue to blow over the region for next 48 hours and thus temperatures will continue to settle above normal over northwestern plains including Delhi for next two to three days. Till then, people across the region will witness fog free mornings with clear weather conditions and bright sunshine.
Thereafter, minimum temperatures are expected to fall again by two to three degrees due to reversal in wind pattern.

Although winter has made its presence felt in the plains of Northwest India, the characteristic biting cold weather conditions are yet to take toll in the region.
As per Skymet Meteorological Department in India, chilly weather conditions still look out of sight. In fact, temperatures across the northwestern plains of India are likely to rise during the next 24 to 8 hours.
There’s an anti-cyclone over central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan region. Dry and cold winds from the hills of Northwest India have been cut off from the plains in the region. As a result, cold wave conditions continue to abate from parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures in the region are likely to rise by 1 to 2°C in the next 24 to 48 hours. This will lead to cold but comfortable conditions across Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, West Uttar Pradesh, parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
Dense fog will remain a rarity during this period but shallow fog can be expected at several places. After 48 hours, i.e. from December 30, the usual weather pattern will be restored and temperatures are expected to drop again.
Thus New Year across the plains of Northwest India is likely to be colder than present day conditions. For the next two days, perfect sunny wintry conditions can be enjoyed by the people of Delhi NCR and other plains of Northwest India.
