Temperatures begin to drop in Delhi

Southwest Monsoon has officially withdrawn from Delhi and adjoining areas of NCR and the national capital city and other parts of North India are inching closer to pleasant nights and mornings with a slight nip in the air.

Owing to change in wind pattern, nights and mornings in Delhi –NCR are turning pleasant with welcoming breeze which is providing relief against the warm day. For instance, Safdarjung recorded 20°C as the minimum temperature on October 2 which was 2 degrees Celsius below than the normal. Similarly, Ridge recorded 18°C as minimum temperature that was 5 degrees below than the normal.

This year, Delhi has witnessed the driest September that also exhibited the most comfortable weather during the month in last five years. Low level of humidity and northwesterly winds were instrumental in making weather bearable in September 2015. The low-pressure area that developed in the Bay of Bengal near September 17 also helped in bringing light rain over parts of Delhi NCR till September 22 which also contributed to the comfortable weather in September.

October undergoes an intermittent period as it witnesses the transition of Southwest Monsoon into Northeast Monsoon. Therefore, the variation in temperature is high, leading to warm days and pleasant evenings. However, this transition does make October a winter month.
