In wake of the ongoing heatwave conditions in Telangana, the state government has asked all schools to commence the summer vacations one week prior to the schedule.

The schools will now be closed from April 16 to June 12 against the previous schedule of April 24 to June 12.

The deadly heatwave has claimed 66 lives, so far. The day temperatures peak during the afternoon hours, exposing children to intense heat. Threat of heat stroke and dehydration looms large, especially for the children.

According to Skymet Weather, there is no relief likely in the next coming days and temperatures will continue to rise further.

Day maximums are already settling above 41°C over most of the districts of the state. Nizamabad was the hottest city in the state at 44.9°C.

Similar weather conditions are also being observed over neighbouring parts of Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Telangana is prone to the severe heat wave conditions during the pre-Monsoon season. The state gets no relief in terms of rain activity during the month of April and May.

It starts getting some respite from blazing heat only around June as the Southwest Monsoon sets in.
