Telangana has been receiving scattered rains for the last few days. In fact, during the last 24 hours, many districts of Telangana have received intense thundershower activities. Hyderabad also recorded moderate showers on June 2 and 3.
The intensity of rains was more over eastern districts such as Khammam, Nalgonda, and Suryapet. Isolated rains were also reported in parts of Hyderabad, but the intensity of these rains remained light.
Reason for these thundershower activities was a trough which was extending from Jharkhand to South Peninsula across Telangana. Also, humid winds from Bay of Bengal were increasing moisture over eastern districts of Telangana.
Despite on and off rains, Telangana is still rain deficient by 35% as the intensity of rains remained mostly light with one or two good spells. Moreover, the rainfall was not widespread and was only patchy. These rains occurred mostly during the afternoon and evening hours, which is a typical pre-Monsoon pattern.
Monsoon usually reaches southern districts of Telangana by June 6. However, this year, due to the late onset over Kerala, we expect that Telangana will have to wait for at least next one week or so for Monsoon to reach Telangana. Most probably it will be around June 14 or 15.
Till then, scattered light to moderate rains are expected to continue over Telangana for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, due to the formation of Low-Pressure Area over Arabian Sea, the rains will reduce, and weather will go almost dry.
Another spell is expected to commence around June 14 or 15, which may mark the onset of Monsoon for Telangana.
