After torrential rains have played havoc during the Cyclone Vardah, light rains were observed at South Tamil Nadu coast during last 24 hours. Although weather of Chennai remained dry. In last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Karaikal observed rains of 0.7 mm, Adirampattinam also witnessed some patches of rainy spells.
These rains were due to the influence of a low-level trough persisting over Maldives and South Sri Lanka. As per Skymet Weather, a fresh Low-Pressure Area is expected to form over South Andaman Sea around January 5.
Although, as of now, it is seen as a low-level trough. But, is expected to intensify gradually and move in a northwesterly direction. Though, the weather system will hit or affect the Tamil Nadu coast is a wait and a watch situation. However, present weather models are indicating that it will not affect coastal Tamil Nadu.
Most probably, after its initial movement towards the state, it is expected to recurve in a northerly direction away from the coast. However, a close monitoring of the Low-Pressure System is still under preference.
It is still unpredictable whether this system will move towards the coastal area of the state of Tamil Nadu or will move away from the coast.
Whatever the case may be, the weather of Tamil Nadu is still expected to continue to remain dry. Chennai is also likely to witness dry weather conditions with bright sunshine for next 3-4 days.
