Once the Monsoon has withdrawn from the northern and central parts, rains tend to shift to the southern parts as a precursor to the Northeast Monsoon. In fact, the last 24 hours have resulted in some rains over Tamil Nadu wherein Chennai saw 25 mm of rains and Tiruttani recorded 5 mm of rainfall.
We can expect some rains over Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the coming days. Light rains will be seen today, tomorrow and the day after. Thereafter, moderate rains will be seen over Tamil Nadu on October 8 and 9. Interiors of Tamil Nadu including Trichy, Madurai, Thanjavur, Tirrupur etc. in the interiors will also see some rains.
The reason for these rains is the Cyclonic Circulation, which is over Gulf of Mannar adjoining Sri Lanka. A trough is also extending along the East Coast from West Bengal to down south. Thus, rains will continue over these areas.
