Light to moderate rains are expected over Tamil Nadu during the next few days. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, existing weather conditions are conducive for rain and thundershower activities over the state.
Going as per the Monsoon pattern, whenever Monsoon surge becomes weak over the country, the rain activity over Tamil Nadu increases and vice versa.
As per Skymet, Tamil Nadu has a long coastline where land and sea breeze effect is very prominent during weak Monsoon. In wake of reduced rain activity, maximum temperatures register a sharp increase that results in strong sea breeze, giving weather over off and along the coast.
This activity generally takes place during afternoon hours when there is a change in breeze from land to sea.
As per Skymet, Tamil Nadu receives less rain during Southwest Monsoon as compared to its neighbouring states. It receives its majority of rainfall during Northeast Monsoon which begins from October till December.
During Monsoon, state receives rain due to two factors. While, the strong Monsoon surge over Kerala gives rain over the adjoining parts of interior Tamil Nadu, changeover of land breeze to sea breeze causes rain over coastal parts.
