Tamil Nadu rains get intense, rainfall to remain hefty

The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing heavy rainfall activity for the past two to three days. In fact, rainfall activity has been quite intense in the last 24 hours as well. Moreover, isolated pockets have recorded rainfall in three digits as well.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Ennore has witnessed a whopping 130 mm of rainfall, Madhavaram recorded 66 mm of rainfall, Thiruvallur saw 57 mm of rains, Thiruvannamalai 54 mm, Chennai saw 53 mm rains, Karaikal 45 mm, Parangipettai 39 mm, and Pamban 34 mm.

In Salem, schools were closed on Thursday while Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur have kept schools shut today in view of heavy rainfall activity over these areas.

Now also, as a Cyclonic Circulation is over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu Coast along with which another circulation is brewing in the Southeast Arabian Sea which is strengthening the system on the East Coast.

Therefore, heavy rains are expected to continue to persist over many parts of Tamil Nadu during the next 24 to 48 hours. Rains may be very heavy to extremely heavy in some parts due to which precautions have been taken by the government if the situation becomes worse.
