Tamil Nadu has been receiving moderate to heavy rains for the last few days now. During the last 24 hours also, Tamil Nadu has received heavy rains at many places. Chennai has also received heavy rains during the last 24 hours. Nungambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded 43 mm of rain in the last 21 hours.

Just yesterday, Pamban in Tamil Nadu recorded a whopping 102 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours with which, it became the first city in Tamil Nadu to record three-digit rainfall in October so far.

Yesterday, Northeast Monsoon has made an onset over Tamil Nadu. Monsoon surge has also increased over the area leading to increased rains. Moreover, a feeble Trough is also extending from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu coast which has also helped in increasing these rain activities. Now, today also we expect moderate to heavy rains over coastal areas of East coast as well as Tamil Nadu.

After 24 hours, the weather activities will subside. However, light to moderate rains with isolated heavy showers cannot be ruled out thereafter as well. This decrease in rain activities will be due to the formation of a Low Pressure Area over Arabian Sea. The moisture concentration will then intensify around that system. Therefore, the weather activities will then start reducing.

From October 20 onward again rain activities will pick a pace over Tamil Nadu. This is when we expect moderate rains with a few heavy showers to reappear over the state.
