Tamil Nadu, Kerala receive light rain, more in offing

Kerala has recorded scattered light rain, while Tamil Nadu witnessed isolated light showers in span of 24 hours. The showers have brought much needed relief from hot and humid weather over both the states that have been dry for last few days.

According to Skymet Weather, moderate easterly winds are blowing over the southern tip of Peninsular India. These winds are further influenced by a feeble trough seen near North Sri Lanka and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast.

All these factors are responsible for the downpour over the southern states of the country.

As per the forecast by Skymet Weather, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala for another 2-3 days. However, rains will be patchy in nature as the weather system is not strong enough and hence, heavy rains are not likely.

But these patchy rain activities will bring down the soaring day temperatures to some extent. At present, Peninsular India is one of the hottest pocket of the country with maximum temperatures settling in high 30s.

Kerala and Tamil have witnessed a wet spell after a long gap. Though on and off very light showers have been witnessed one some days of February but significant rain has not been recorded.

Rains have been on backseat ever since the beginning of the years. Both the states have remained rain deficient from January 01 till February 24, with deficiency amounting to 34% over Kerala and 90% over Tamil Nadu.
