However, rain gods bestowed some kindness over both the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Rainfall activity has picked pace during the last two to three days. So much so that several places have been receiving heavy rains as well.
Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu has also received light rainfall of 4 mm during the last 24 hours. In fact, more showers are likely for the region.
These rains can be attributed to the presence of a trough of low is extending from Gulf of Mannar up to North Tamil Nadu. The easterly wave has also become active paving way for heavy rains over some parts.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Pamban received a whopping 131 mm of rainfall followed by Coonoor where 80 mm of rain was witnessed. Other areas to have witnessed good rains include Cuddalore 53 mm, Madikeri 32 mm, Tiruttani 39 mm, Karaikal 29 mm, Parangipettai 23 mm, Kottayam 15 mm, and Palayankottai 12 mm.
The intensity of rains has been higher over Tamil Nadu as compared to Kerala. Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, rainfall activity is expected to continue. Rains will continue to be heavy over southern parts of Tamil Nadu as the trough is likely to move towards South Tamil Nadu.
