Tamil Nadu, Andhra brace for Cyclone Vardah, NDRF, Indian Navy on standby

To mark an end to the prolonged dry spell hovering over the Southern Peninsular India, rains are foreseen to revive again in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Since the beginning of the month, both the states have been highly rainfall deficient. This was basically due to an absence of any significant weather system in and around the state.

However, as per Skymet Weather, a trough of low has formed over South Andaman Sea and is likely to become more prominent and shift towards Tamil Nadu coast. This will result in scattered light rains over coastal and southern Tamil Nadu including Chennai tonight.

Moreover, on January 21, rains are likely to intensify thereby covering many districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai along with some areas of Kerala. Thereafter, rain intensity is expected to reduce on January 23 however, isolated light showers are still expected over south Tamil Nadu and at one or two places over Kerala.

Henceforth, the weather will though go dry but soon another surge is expected over the region by January 25 or January 26. During this time, more intense showers will make their appearance over both the states. In fact, on January 26, fairly widespread rains are likely at many places over both Tamil Nadu and Kerala also including south interior Karnataka.

These showers are expected to continue until January 28. Additionally, the day temperatures are likely to curtail down by 2-3 degrees. Moreover, the lows are expected to reduce marginally.

Hence, next week could be considered as a rainy and pleasant week for the southern peninsula.
