Tamil Nadu gets light rainfall, sultry weather to follow

Tamil Nadu Rains

Meteorologists at Skymet Weather predicted that Tamil Nadu will receive good rainfall throughout yesterday. And that is exactly what happened over many parts of the state. While the entire country remained dry, few stations of Tamil Nadu managed to get good rains.

In the span of 24 hours from February 13, 08:30AM, Atiramapattinam in Tamil Nadu received 36 mm of rainfall, Tondi received 7 mm of rains, Kovilangulam 8 mm, Kodaikanal 2 mm and light showers were reported in north district of Cuddalore.

Such rainfall is not common for the state but this sudden rainfall is a welcome surprise for the region. The average rainfall for many regions of the state doesn’t go up to 2 digit figures.

At present, a trough is seen over Comorin area to Madhya Maharashtra. This trough is passing though interior Tamil Nadu. This trough is the reason behind the rain & thundershowers over many places over South and coastal Tamil Nadu.

Now, we expect that rain & thundershowers will continue but North coastal parts of the state will remain dry with most parts of south India. After 24 hours weather will go dry.

Such short spell of rainfall and rise in temperatures over South India will result in hot & sultry weather condition over many parts of the state. As the trough will move towards Kerala, rainfall will stop after 24 hours.
