Second half of November is turning out to be much better for Tamil Nadu in terms of rains. The Cyclone ‘Gaja’ gave heavy to very heavy rains over many parts of the state and now, a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area which is over South-West and adjoining South-central Bay of Bengal is moving towards the state.

Due to this weather activity, we expect moderate rains with one or two heavy spells to commence over entire coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, right from Chennai to Karaikal and Pamban. Initially, the rains would be isolated over interior districts but gradually by November 21, we expect many interior districts of Tamil Nadu might also start receiving good rains.

Also, in the upcoming days, the city of Chennai is all set to get moderate rains at many places. One or two intense showers cannot be ruled out.

These on and off rains are expected to continue over the entire state until November 22. Thereafter, the weather system will weaken and fade away. Thus, rains will reduce significant, but isolated light rains may continue.

For last many days Tamil Nadu was rain deficient, but due to recent rains the rain deficiency of the state has decreased to a large extent. Tamil Nadu is now in the ‘normal’ rain category with just 19% rain deficiency. A figure with a variability of ±19 is considered as ‘normal’ rain.
