The southern tip of Tamil Nadu has been receiving light to moderate rains since the last three to four days now. During the last 24 hours also, multiple cities in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala received light to moderate rain activities. While Cochin received 31 mm rains, Palayamkottai 2 mm, Tuticorin 9 mm and Pamban recorded 2 mm rains. While rest other states including Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are seeing dry weather.
The reason for these rains is a Cyclonic Circulation persisting in the lower levels of atmosphere between Kerala and Maldives area. Also, strong northeasterly winds are feeding moisture over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. The combination of these weather systems has resulted in these rains.
Now, we expect rains to continue over Kerala as well as South Tamil Nadu for another 24 hours. Chennai will also witness isolated thunderstorm and light rains on January 22.
On the other hand, North coast of Tamil Nadu as well as Northern district of Kerala will remain dry. Meanwhile, no major change in temperature profile is likely over these states despite the rains.
