The state of Odisha has received good rains in the last two days, while Andhra Pradesh also recorded light to moderate rains at many places.

The reason for these rains could be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough that is passing across Balasore. In addition, an off shore trough is extending from Andhra Pradesh Coast to South Tamil Nadu Coast.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Keongjhargarh recorded rainfall to the tune of 79 mm, followed by Ongole wherein 42 mm of rains were observed. Other areas that recorded good rains include Bhabanipatna 27 mm, Puri 22 mm, Cuttack 20 mm, Jharsuguda 15 mm, Sambalpur 12 mm, Kalingapatnam 12 mm, Cuddapah 10 mm, Pulbani 5 mm, Bhubaneswar 4 mm and Chandbali 3 mm.

In wake of this, light to moderate rains are likely to continue over Odisha, however now the intensity of these rains will lessen. In the meantime, Coastal Andhra Pradesh particularly the southern parts such as Ongole, Bapatla and Vijayawada will continue with a few good spells.

The state of Odisha is near normal by just minus 2%, whereas Rayalaseema is rain deficit by 16%. Only Coastal Andhra Pradesh is rain surplus by 12%.

There may not be much change in rain figures with the upcoming rains over Rayalaseema and Odisha but the rain surplus of Coastal Andhra Pradesh will increase further.
