The low pressure area over Northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal has further intensified into a depression. At present, the system is centered at 22°N and 90.8°E, around 60 kilometers southeast of Patuakhali, Bangladesh.
The weather system has already been giving good rainfall over the Gangetic West Bengal and coastal Odisha. And with this system gaining more strength, heavy to very heavy Monsoon showers are expected to lash parts of Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining Mizoram and Tripura and southern parts of Bangladesh. While, moderate showers will be recorded over parts of North coastal Odisha.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the weather system is expected to become more marked and strengthen into a deep depression during the next 48 hours. Till then the system will remain stationary over the present location.
After gaining strength, the system is expected to shift in west-northwest direction, moving inland. With this, intensity of rain will further increase over the region by July 30-31 onwards. However, rain will reduce over parts of Northeast India.
