Surprising Mumbai rains to continue today

Mumbai rains were hiding in a corner for the longest time. The residents kept waiting for those beautiful droplets of rain to make an appearance.

It had been seven months since dry as a bone Mumbai had seen any rains at all. In fact, the residents of the city of dreams were desperately waiting for some rainfall activity to make an appearance.

The last time the city had seen rainfall was on October 7, 2016. Since then, the city continued to witness dry weather conditions. However, rain gods decided to shoo their anger away and give some good news to Mumbaikars.

The mundane Friday evening turned out to be the most exciting one as thunderclouds developed over the region. In fact, what began as lightning and thunderstorm activity finally transformed into rains and the residents could not have been happier.

During the last 24 hours, Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai received a good 3 mm of rain. Twitterati was as excited as it could get with social media flooded with tweets and pictures of the lost and found Mumbai rains.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of a trough from Madhya Maharashtra up to Interior Karnataka. Also, a cyclonic circulation persists over Interior Karnataka region. Moisture incursion took place from the Arabian Sea resulting in cloud development over Mumbai.

Now, clouding persists over Mumbai and adjoining areas. In fact, a few parts have also begun to witness rains. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the city is likely to witness light thunderstorm activity with chances of rain over some parts.
