July 11, 2019 5:03 PM |

Monsoon in Maharashtra

Active to vigorous Monsoon has given heavy to very heavy rains in Konkan and Goa in the last 24 hours. Most parts of Mumbai also received heavy showers during the same span.

Talking about the interior regions of Maharashtra, Madhya Maharashtra observed good rain and thundershower activities, wherein moderate showers were recorded in Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara. Similarly, a few good spells lashed the region of Marathwada, wherein Aurangabad, Jalna and Bir, in particular, recorded light to moderate showers.

The ongoing good rains have helped the Konkan and Goa region to become rain surplus by 14%. Similarly, these Monsoon showers have pulled down the rain deficiency in Madhya Maharashtra, thus making the region rain surplus by 13%. On the other hand, rains have remained on the lower side so far in Marathwada and Vidarbha, thus making these two regions rain deficient by 34% and 20% respectively.

In the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Matheran has recorded 232 mm of rainfall, followed by Vengurla 129 mm, Mahabaleshwar 123 mm, Alibag 82 mm, Colaba (Mumbai) 72 mm, Harnai 71 mm, Santa Cruz (Mumbai) 50 mm, Ratnagiri 46 mm, Thane (Mumbai) 45 mm and Aurangabad 33 mm, Jalna and Bir observed 7 mm of rainfall each.

According to Skymet Weather, the intensity of rains will reduce in Konkan and Goa now. Rains will occur with reduced intensity over the northern districts, wherein Mumbai, Thane and Dahanu will witness a drop in rainfall activities.

Likewise, Jalgaon, Nashik, Malegaon, and Pune in North Madhya Maharashtra region will record light rains only.

Further, after two days, almost all the interior parts of Maharashtra including Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra will become almost dry with the possibility of isolated light rains. Moreover, we expect rains to remain subdued over these areas until July 16 or 17. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains will continue in the southern districts of Konkan and Goa.
