Since the last few days, an offshore Monsoon Trough has been active from South Gujarat to Karnataka. Due to this active Monsoon surge, places such as Konkan and Goa including Mumbai have recorded good rains with thundershower activities. Now, this offshore Monsoon Trough has weakened and due to this, we expect the rainfall activities to reduce over Coastal Karnataka and Goa including the city of Mumbai.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, light to moderate showers were seen over parts of Vidharbha and in isolated pockets of Madhya Maharashtra.
Now, we expect on and off rainfall activities to continue over Vidharbha until September 12. Thereafter, the rains would reduce significantly over Vidharbha. Madhya Maharashtra would also witness subdued Monsoon activities with isolated light rains. Scattered light rains with moderate spells at one or two places are expected to continue today.
The rainfall activities are expected to pick up pace at some places such as Konkan and Goa including Mumbai between September 13 and September 15. The southern districts of Konkan and Goa would continue to observe moderate showers.
Due to continuous good amount of rainfall, Madhya Maharashtra is standing at a rain surplus of 56% and Konkan and Goa 51%.
On the contrary, in the absense of good showers, Marathwada is still rain deficient by 19% from June 1 to September 10.
