Sunny winter days ahead for Delhi, Punjab and Haryana

January 23, 2017 2:09 PM |

Sunny days in DelhiAfter witnessing wintry chills, the minimum temperatures across the northern plains of the country including Delhi and NCR and parts of Punjab, Haryana including few pockets of North Rajasthan has been witnessing a rising trend.

The reason for this wintery chill was the blowing of north-northwesterly winds from the snow-clad mountains of the Western Himalayas. This was making the temperatures plunge to a few notches thereby making the weather conditions over the northern plains chilly.

However, now, an induced cyclonic circulation has developed near Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan. Moreover, these icy cold winds from the north and northwesterly directions are now blowing from the southwest direction.

Due to combined effect of both these weather systems, minimum temperatures have scaled up by 2-3°C across the northwest plains including parts of Central India in last 48 hours. Due to this, people residing in the northern plains have been enjoying sunny afternoons.

As per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is also expected to approach the hills of North India leading to moderate to heavy snowfall in the hilly regions. However, its impact will still not be felt over the plains of North India as the cold icy northwesterly winds are not predicted to travel across the plains.

Furthermore, minimum temperatures along the northern plains are expected to continue rising by 1-2°C at most of the places. While some areas may also witness a rise of 2-3°C.  Similar weather is likely to persist over this region until January 27.

Hence, it can be said that people residing in the plains of North India can brace for some more warm days coming ahead.
