The Western Disturbance has given rain and snow over West Himalayas and simultaneously induced a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. Due to this, dense to very dense fog was observed over Haryana, Delhi and parts of North Rajasthan leading to cold-day conditions at many places.
Whenever maximum temperature is 16°C or less it is considered as cold-day. Yesterday, Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded maximum temperature of 15.4°C and Palam observatory recorded maximum temperature of 15.6°C. Narnaul in Haryana recorded 15.2°C and maximum temperatures of Hisar and Pilani remained 17.5°C.
Though minimum temperatures of all these places were above normal but the difference between minimum and maximum was in order of 5-6°C only. Whenever maximum temperature remains between 15-17°C then that time winter chill becomes much more severe and precedent for the people.
Now the Western Disturbance has moved away and a cyclonic circulation has also become insignificant; dry and cold northwesterly winds have commenced over entire northwestern plains, we expect that day temperatures to rise again. Sun will also beam with bright sunlight leading to abatement of cold-day conditions from entire regions. Minimum temperatures will fall by 2-3°C, but in spite of lower minimums, the winter chill will be less as the maximum temperatures are likely to settle in the lower 20°Cs.
