Sunny days in offing for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

Since the beginning of the month, the northern hills of the country have been witnessing on and off rain and snow. The higher reaches of the hilly states particularly regions in Jammu and Kashmir were covered with snow. In last 24 hours as well, the hills of North India were lashed by light to moderate rain and snow.

During the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Qazigund observed 5 mm of rain and snow, Banihal 7 mm, Srinagar 3 mm, Gulmarg 10 mm, Batote 3.8 mm, Bhaderwah 15.2 mm, Kukemag 3.1 mm, Kupwara 5.6 mm, Pahalgam 3.6 mm, Bilaspur 6 mm, Chamba 5 mm, Dharamsala 12 mm, Manali 13.6 mm, Sundarnagar 21.1 mm and Nainital 14.5 mm and Tehri observed 4.1 mm of rains.

The reason for these rainy and snowy spells over the hills of North India can be attributed to the Western Disturbance which has affecting the Western Himalayas for the last few days.

Now, as per Skymet Weather, this weather system is likely to move away gradually, thereby significantly reducing the intensity of rain and snow over the hills. However, remnants of the system will continue to give isolated rain and thundershowers over East Jammu and Kashmir and North Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, the hilly states of North India can brace for clear weather, marked with sunny days once again.
