After bidding farewell to Monsoon, usually, temperatures start rising over most parts of South India. As a pattern, at present, most parts of South Peninsula have started heating up in the month of January itself.
Many areas of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala are experiencing above normal temperatures since January 23 and 24. For example, Karwar is observing above normal temperatures by four to five degrees since the last many days. Multiple stations including Madurai, Karwar and Kochi are recording maximum temperatures in mid-30s between 34 and 37 degrees.
Weather of entire southern peninsula is running dry since the last many days. Due to the formation of an anti-cyclone over Bay of Bengal, southerly winds are blowing over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema as well as over interior parts of Telangana.
Now we do not expect any significant relief from this growing heat. However, during the last 24 hours, day and night temperatures of Telangana have dropped by 3 to 4 degrees due to the winds.
Looking at the forecast, the days will remain hot and sunny in the coming days also. There will be some relief from the growing heat over northern districts of Telangana in the coming few days. However, most parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala will be experiencing above normal day temperatures.
Parts of Telangana, Interior Tamil Nadu and Interior Karnataka will experience warm but comfortable nights for the next one week or so. Thereafter, minimums will also start increasing leading to Summer like situation.
