Summer in Rajasthan Gujarat 1

As the month of March is about to end, the weather has already shifted its gears with mercury soaring above normal levels over most of India. The harsh and unrelenting summer season is here as the mercury is nearing 40°Cs in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Pre-Monsoon showers did show up over northwest plains and many states of South India. But now even that rainy spell is over and dry weather is likely to prevail now. At present most parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan are witnessing maximum temperatures in the higher reaches of 30°Cs which is normal for the region but the minimums have seen a steep rise of 4-5°C.

These weather conditions are there due to an anti-cyclonic circulation is seen over Rajasthan and adjoining belt of Gujarat. Due to this weather system in place, dry westerly winds from desert of Rajasthan will continue to prevail over the region. These winds are dry and hot in nature resulting hot and uneasy weather conditions.

In the span of 24 hours from 08:30am on Tuesday, Bikaner in Rajasthan recorded maximums of 37.2°C, Jaisalmer 37.7°C, Barmer 38.7°C, Churu 37.8°C; whereas Ahmedabad in Gujarat recorded maximum temperature of around 38.1°C, Bhuj 38.4°C, Surendranagar 39.3°C and Rajkot recorded 39.0°C.

With temperatures already above normal over Gujarat and Rajasthan, isolated regions of both the states may even witness heatwave conditions.
