Summer goes rogue as heatwave grips Delhi-NCR

April 15, 2017 1:23 PM |

Delhi warm days

The scorching summer heat has intensified in most parts of the country. While the central and western regions of the country were already gripped under heatwave conditions, it seems that heatwave is expected to engulf North India as well.

Temperatures are witnessing whopping heights in North India particularly in Delhi which has recorded the daytime high beyond 40°C in the last 24 hours. Both the Delhi observatories on Friday observed the maximums above the 40-degree mark.

The Safdarjung Observatory in the last 24 hours observed the maximum settling at 40.6°C while the Palam observatory witnessed the daytime high at 42.4°C which is 6 and 7 degrees respectively beyond the average. The monthly average maximum for the Safdarjung and Palam observatories stands at 37.1°C and 36.3°C respectively. Both the yesterday's maximums have resulted in intensifying the afternoon heat to a great extent.

Skymet Weather foresees that the temperatures across the National Capital are further likely to enhance thus resulting in the heatwave conditions to linger on for another 48 hours. The night temperatures are also likely to increase thus making the weather condition uncomfortable during both day and night.

The reason for the ongoing heatwave and humid weather conditions can be attributed to the dry northwesterly winds that are blowing from the hot regions of Rajasthan. These winds will witness a wind change and become warm southwesterly that will enhance heatwave conditions. The absence of any significant weather conditions over the National Capital is also likely to induce and intensify the maximum temperature.
