The first half of April has been very pleasant in Delhi and most parts of North India this year. In fact, the national capital has broken last 10 years’ record, as average maximum for the first 15 days settled at 31.9 degrees. Occurrence of frequent Western Disturbances could be attributed to frequent spells of rain and pleasant weather conditions. However, the mercury seems to be rising now and very soon, North and Central India will enter thick of summer season. In another 2 to 3 days, day temperature will touch the 40 degree mark in Delhi and adjoining areas.
Western Disturbances have finally started weakening and shifting towards the upper latitudes. At present a feeble system is affecting Jammu and Kashmir, but will not be strong enough to affect the plains. Thunderstorm activity is likely over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi on Sunday night, but there are chances of very light rainfall. Temperatures will come down only for a short duration but maximum and minimum temperatures will not be affected much.
Temperatures have already started rising in the plains of North and Central India. Hot and dry westerly winds coming from Pakistan and Rajasthan will further make the mercury rise in these areas.
South Central Pakistan, adjoining Rajasthan and Gujarat are experiencing heat-wave like conditions. There will no relief from the heat in cities like Ahmedabad, Amreli, Idar and Rajkot in Gujarat. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, maximums in these cities will remain above 40°C.
