At this time, all the regions of Maharashtra, i.e. Vidarbha, Marathwada, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra have been witnessing above normal maximum temperatures. This departure from the normal levels, particularly over Konkan and Goa is the highest, wherein day temperatures have been settling by 5 to 7 degrees above the normal range.
For instance, as on Thursday, Mumbai and Ratnagiri recorded a maximum of 37.4°C.
Hot day conditions are going on over many parts of Konkan and the weather has become very uneasy, leading to discomfort among the inhabitants. This could be attributed to the vicinity of Arabian Sea, which is why humidity levels usually remain high.
The high humidity and high temperatures are at present increasing the distress level over Konkan. Although Vidarbha may see scattered rainsaround March 7 and 8, but during that time also dry and warm weather is expected to continue over Konkan region.
However, temperatures may decrease marginally, due to the cloud cover that will bring in some relief.
At this stage, let’s have a look at the impact of weather on agriculture:
Farmers are advised to protect Mango inflorescence and developing fruits from hot and dry winds. Furthermore, they should also shield the crops from sucking pest. Farmers are recommended to provide irrigation to summer Groundnut crop at regular intervals.
