The active Western Disturbance continues to affect the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Snowfall has been confined to the higher reaches, while widespread light to moderate rain was witnessed in the middle and lower reaches.
In last 24 hours, the higher reaches of Ladakh received widespread snowfall while, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand recorded scattered and isolated snowfall, respectively.
In the span of last 24 hours, Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir recorded 4 mm of rain, Gulmarg 5.2 mm, Pahalgam 0.4 mm, Banihal 0.8 mm, Batote 0.3 mm and Srinagar 0.4 mm.
In Himachal Pradesh, Kullu received 4.4 mm of rain, Manali 6 mm, Kalpa 0.4 mm and Keylong 1 mm. Uttarakhand received light rainfall with Joshimath recording 3 mm.
The hilly states will continue to witness light to moderate rain till the end of February on account of two fresh Western Disturbances approaching in quick succession. The first system will start affecting weather from 20th February and the second system from the 22nd. Even the plains will come under the spell of the system from 24th of February. Consequently, Delhi and other plains of North India may receive light rainfall.
In wake of the present Western Disturbance, minimum temperatures have increased by two to three degrees, while the maximum temperatures have dropped significantly across the region, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
