For the past two to three days, several areas in Interior Tamil Nadu have been receiving good rains. So much so that temperatures have witnessed a marginal drop over these areas. Also, minimums have also witnessed a slight drop over the region.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Coimbatore recorded a good 18 mm of rainfall, followed by Tiruchchirapalli where 7 mm rain was received. Also, Tirupathi received 3 mm of rain during the same time.
These rains have been attributed to the wind discontinuity which is currently passing through the Interior parts of Tamil Nadu. This is a semi-permanent feature during the Pre-Monsoon season and is responsible for giving rain in the Interior Peninsular region.
However,Chennaihas remained mostly dry during this period. In fact, the city has remained dry during the past few weeks. During the month of April, not even a drop of rainfall has been recorded over the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
Presently, convective clouds have formed in the North and South of Chennai. Thus, chances of rain and thunderstorm in the suburbs of Chennai cannot be ruled out.
