The state of West Bengal has remained dry for quite some time. Rainfall activity has remained absent from the state for quite some time now. However, rain gods have finally decided to make an appearance over the region.

As per Skymet Weather, thunderclouds have developed over parts of West Bengal as well as adjoining areas of Assam. In fact, some rainfall activity has also been witnessed over some areas. Heavy rains of 41 mm were observed over West Assam and 10 mm of rain was also witnessed over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Now, during the next few hours, more rains are likely over these areas. Several cloud patches are currently visible over these areas. Light to moderate rainfall is expected over these areas during the next 12 to 18 hours. The possibility of a few heavy spells cannot be ruled out over these areas. Lightning strikes are also possible over these areas.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of a trough which is currently extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Arunachal Pradesh. Not only this, another trough is also extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to the northern parts of Chhattisgarh.

These weather conditions are expected to continue for at least the next 18 hours. Thereafter, rainfall intensity will reduce over some areas at least.
