Strong winds with rain in Surat, Valsad, Vadodara during next 24 hours, courtesy Cyclone Maha

Severe Cyclonic Storm Maha has moved marginally close to Gujarat coastal stations. The easterly and southeasterly winds are prevailing and have strengthened during the last 24 hours.

The winds from the Bay of Bengal are also reaching these areas. A Trough from the storm towards Southwest Madhya Pradesh is moving across North of coastal Maharashtra. As a system is likely to move further northwestward, the Trough will also move over the Gujarat region.

In the last 24 hours, we have seen that the south coastal stations of Gujarat have received moderate rains with few heavy spells. The significant rain has been recorded at Veraval of 15 mm, Surat 19 mm, Valsad 24 mm, Bhavnagar 3 mm, Mahua 7 mm, and Diu 55 mm.

As per our experts, the rainfall will continue over Gujarat and is likely to intensify with moderate showers over the south and central parts of the state. These showers will be associated with strong gusty winds. Light activities are expected over the North and Northeast districts of the state.

Kutch may see light to moderate showers. Whereas coastal stations may experience strong gusty winds reaching 40 –50 kmph with high waves along the coast of 10-12 feet. The activities will continue until November 3 and are likely to decrease as the system will further northwestward away from the coast, but the systems stand a chance to recurve towards the South Gujarat coast November 5 onward and will reach Gujarat coast around November 7.

Weather alert for Gujarat

Light to moderate rain and thundershower with strong winds (40-50 kmph) will occur at many places of Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Botad, Chhota Udaipur, Dohad, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Kheda, Narmada, Navsari, Panch Mahals, Surat, Tapi, The Dangs, Vadodara, and Valsad the during next 4-6 hours.
