March 22, 2016 11:46 AM |

Weather in DelhiDelhi-NCR has been witnessing several shades of weather for the last few days. After some untimely rains, now city has been under the grip of strong northwesterly winds since Monday afternoon.

These winds have led to significant drop in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees. Night temperatures that have been settling way above normal are settling near normal temperatures.

On Tuesday, Delhi recorded minimum temperature of 17°C, while Palam Observatory recorded 15.1°C.

Prior to this, there was a Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana. Wind speed was also light to very light.

After the passage of these systems, normal pattern of northwesterly winds has been restored.

According to Skymet Weather, these strong surface winds can also be termed as ‘dust raising winds’. Delhi is going through a changeover period, wherein it is approaching towards pre-Monsoon season.

During this period, we often get to see gusting winds on several occasions.

At present, Delhi is witnessing 20 kmph-25 kmph gusting up to 35 kmph. These winds are likely to continue for another 24-36 hours.

Thereafter, another Western Disturbance will start affecting the Western Himalayas. This will also induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan leading to weakening and reversal of these winds, once again.

Moderate to strong winds have also led to decrease in overall pollution levels. These winds are dry in nature and their speed has reduced the levels of humidity.
