Slowly and steadily, pre-Monsoon activities have started covering parts of Northwest and East India. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, few places in West Bengal and its adjoining region have observed light to moderate rainfall activity. Darjeeling recorded 16 mm of rain, followed by Cooch Behar 15 mm, Dibrugarh 10 mm and Jalpaiguri 8 mm.
Meanwhile, dry and very warm weather conditions prevailed over rest most parts of East India. But Sunday morning, Northeast Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal witnessed short spell of rain and thundershowers with string winds.
However, interior parts of Odisha have been experiencing hot weather conditions with maximums reaching up to 41˚C.
At present, an anti-cyclonic circulation lies over west-central and adjoining parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal in the lower levels. Simultaneously, an upper air trough is extending from Bihar to Odisha with an embedded cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining parts of Gangetic West Bengal.
Due to presence of all these weather systems, moist winds from Bay of Bengal is increasing humidity over East India. Thus, the temperature pattern will increase gradually in spite of clouding. The day would be very warm, and night will remain comfortable.
Places like Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Siliguri and Murshidabad will receive light to moderate rain and thundershower activities along with strong winds during the next 24 to 36 hours. During this time, isolated places in Gangetic West Bengal will observe light rain and thundershowers.
Due to availability of moisture, during the next 48 hours, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha will also witness rain and thundershowers at isolated places associated with strong winds. Rain and thundershower activities with strong winds (40-60kmph) will affect over Araria, Katihar, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Purnia, Saharsa and Supaul the districts of Bihar during next 4-6 hours.
Weather Alert: Rain and thundershowers with strong winds will occur over Cooch Behar, Dumka, Gonda, Jamtara, Jalpaiguri, Pakur, Sahibganj, Siliguri, Birbhum, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Purulia and Uttar Dinajpur the districts of West Bengal and Jharkhand during the next 4 to 6 hours.
