At present, dry weather is continuing over the entire state of Gujarat. The surface wind speed is moderate while, the sky conditions were partly cloudy to cloudy since five to six days, in the wake of the moving Western Disturbances across higher latitudes. The dry and strong winds are likely to affect the present crops as these winds are dry and strong.

Main crops in Gujarat are wheat, tomato, chilli, brinjal, tobacco, cumin, garlic, castor and pigeon pea. As the major crops in the state these days are ready with the grain, a last cast of irrigation remains undone because of the ongoing winds. Also, the persisting cloud cover is making the ripe crop susceptible to pest and disease infestation.

The present cloud cover will be persisting during the next 12 to 18 hours. Thereafter, bright sunshine will be seen over the state between March 17 to 19.

Post March 19, cloud cover is expected to increase and will be persisting from March 20 to March 25.

The present surface winds will be persisting till March 19. Between March 20 and 21 the winds speed will reduce significantly. Again, a fresh spell of strong winds will affect the region from March 22 onward and will persist till March 25. Weather would continue to remain dry and warm during the day.

The maximum temperatures will be between 30 to 34 degrees while night will remain pleasant. The minimum temperatures will be 18 to 20 degree Celsius over the interior parts.

Skymet forecasts that the period between, March 19 to 21 will be the best time for the farmers to irrigate the fields.
