The Low-Pressure Area over coastal Maharashtra and adjoining Northeast Arabian sea has moved west northwestwards and is lying over Northeast Arabian sea and south of Gujarat coast. The system will continue to travel in a west-northwest direction and concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours. And the wind shear zone is moving across the north of Maharashtra.
Rain Forecast
In view of the above systems, the coastal stations of the state like Junagarh, Dwarka, Porbandar, Okha, Rajkot and Jamnagar are likely to observe squally weather with winds gusting at 40-50 kmph. Spells of moderate to heavy rain are expected to affect the area during the next 24 hours. The activity is expected to continue in the region for a period of almost one week with a short break on September 23 and 24.
Moderate amounts of rain are also expected in parts of East Gujarat and adjoining coast. Ahmedabad, Baroda, Gandhinagar, Surat, Valsad, Mahua and Bhavnagar are some of the places here that will observe rain.
In fact, rainfall activity has already started in some places. In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday Keshod received 42 mm of rain while 33 mm of rain was observed in Vallabhvidyanagar. Veraval, Rajkot, Baroda and Valsad also received 15 mm, 12 mm 15.6 mm and 14 mm of rain, respectively.
Monsoon Performance
Rain in Gujarat this Southwest Monsoon season so far is surplus by 31%. The Gujarat region is excess by 14 %, while the subdivision of Saurashtra and Kutch is surplus by a whopping 43%. These figures clearly tell you how good Monsoon rain in Gujarat has been this season.
