A Fresh Western Disturbance is all set to approach the Western Himalayas around December 22. This will be the first active Western Disturbance of the season and will be widespread in nature. This system will have an induced Cyclonic Circulation over the Plains of North India.
Around December 22 and 23, the effect of this particular system will be over the hills resulting in good snow and rain over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Thereafter, December 24 onward, the system will extend to the plains as well, giving some good rains over the North Indian Plains including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. These rainfall activities may extend to December 25 as well, resulting in a rainy Christmas for parts.
Moreover, this system is likely to result in a snowy Christmas for many parts of the hilly regions of North India including Srinagar, Shimla, Manali, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and even extending up to higher reaches of Uttarakhand.
This season so far, North India has not experienced any thick fog so far but after the passage of this particular system, a lot of moisture will be left behind which may result in foggy mornings around December 26-27.
Rainfall has been poor so far for both November and December in the North Indian Plains. However, with this upcoming spell, there may be some good spells
