After bringing damagingly gusty winds and thundershowers over North Philippines, Tropical Storm Podul continues to traverse westwards with an undying intensity.
Podul might cross close to the southern province of Hainan (China) today i.e. Thursday. The residents are already put on an alert.
Podul might bring locally damaging winds to southern parts of the island. Some areas might even see flooding downpours.
Just after traversing close to Hainan, the Storm is expected to make a landfall on North Vietnam just a day after on Friday.
Thereafter, as it makes a landfall the Storm might lose its intensity while hovering over the terrains of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
Cities such as Da Nang, Ha Tinh, and surrounding areas are put on alert as these locations are the ones to bear the maximum brunt of Storm Podul with strong winds and torrential rains.
The rainfall intensity will then shift westwards as Podul tracks into Laos and then Thailand by Friday night.
Rainfall to the tune of 200 mm is expected over these areas which might result in high risk of floods and mudslides.
Damaging winds will, however, remain confined to the coastal areas. Winds reaching 80-95 kmph might uproot trees on its way and lead to power outages.
Residents are alerted against any possible mishappenings and to pay heed to the advice rolled out by the local authorities.
