Winter has made an appearance over the hills of north India and the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir has been no different. Srinagar has been seeing below normal temperatures for the past few days. Today, for the first time this season, the city of Srinagar saw the minimum dropping sub zero and settled at -0.8 degrees.
If we take last few years, this year saw sub zero temperatures making an entrance slightly late. Last year, sub zero was touched on November 14 itself. Usually, once the minimum drops below zero, invariably the minimum will remain zero or sub zero only till the rest of November, December and January.
The only time these minimums rise is when a Western Disturbance approaches resulting in the rise in minimum is however these minimum is even then remain below 5°C, around 2-3 degrees Celsius throughout the season. The moment the system moves away minimum is again drop to below 0°.
For now, no active system is expected, temperatures in Srinagar may see a further drop to about -2 to -3 degrees in the remaining days of November in view of clear skies and absence of Western Disturbance.
