Weather conditions over the hills of North India had become mild. Both minimum and maximum temperatures were being observed above the normal levels. Sky conditions had also become clear due to the absence of any significant weather system.

Now, a fresh and an active Western Disturbance has approached the Western Himalayan region. The weather system is currently over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. Under its influence, an induced cyclonic circulation has also formed over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.

Due to the Western Disturbance, moderate to heavy rain and snow has been recorded over the hills of North India, particularly over the Jammu and Kashmir region. Some rain and snow has also been witnessed over Himachal Pradesh and higher reaches of Uttarakhand as well. So much so that very heavy rainfall along with snow has also been witnessed over isolated pockets.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Srinagar has recorded a whopping 62 mm of rainfall which also happens to be the highest in the last ten years. The last time such heavy rains were observed was on February 8, 2009 when 50.3 mm of rainfall was recorded.

Now, during the next 24 hours, some more weather activity is expected over the hills of North India. Thereafter, the weather system will move way and clear sky conditions will take over.
