The city of Kolkata has been witnessing Pre-Monsoon rains since quite a long time now. In fact, the month of April has been quite fruitful for the entire city with rains being on the higher side throughout.

This year, Kolkata recorded way more rains as compared to what it usually does. The city has already surpassed its monthly average rains.
At present, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. A trough is seen extending from this system up to Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal.
Therefore, we expect rain or thundershower activities to continue over Kolkata and nearby areas during the next 24 hours. These showers would also be accompanied with squally wind, which is a common phenomenon during the pre-Monsoon season.
Day and night temperatures are expected to remain marginally above normal. During the last 24-hour, maximum temperature was recorded at 37.6°C, whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.2°C.
However, after 24 hours, we expect the weather to become dry but on and off thunderstorm or spot thunder showers for short duration cannot be ruled out till April 28.
Despite these pre-Monsoon activities, the weather conditions over the city of Kolkata are expected to remain very warm and humid. As per weathermen, pre-Monsoon activities usually occur during the later part of the day or in the evening hours and by then mercury had already peaked. Thus, afternoons continue to be warm and humid.
