Sporadic Rains Over South Peninsula, More Rains By End Of Week

Parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala received light to moderate showers in the past 24hr. These sporadic showers may be termed as unseasonal and therefore untimely. South Coastal Tamil Nadu and interior parts witnessed light to moderate rains with Atiramapattinam-23mm, Kodaikanal-17mm, Tuticorin-10mm and  Tondi & Trichy 6mm each.  Light rains were also received at Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Madurai and state capital Chennai.  Very light rains were recorded at Punalur and Varkala in Kerala.  

Northeast Monsoon has withdrawn from the region on 12th Jan. Dry weather conditions prevailed thereafter, across the region.  A feeble perturbation, moving east to west in the equatorial region  may usher yet another spell of unseasonal rains around fag end of the month.
A cyclonic circulation is moving along extreme southern parts across Comorin Sea. Northward extension of trough resulted scattered rains over the 2 southern states. Rain belt will shift further westward over State of Kerala and Coastal Karnataka today.  The weather activity will reduce tomorrow and be minimal along the coast of Kerala. Broad clearance is expected from 26th Jan onward. 

A cyclonic circulation is emerging over extreme south Bay of Bengal, in the equatorial region. The weather system will become more marked and also mover westward. It is likely to get positioned in the proximity of Sri Lanka on 27th and 28th Jan. Subsequently, this circulation is likely to shift northward and come over southwest Bay of Bengal, off Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, between 29th and 31st Jan.  North Coastal Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to have scattered moderate showers and heavy at some places durind this period.
