As on predicted lines, there is a rising trend of minimum temperatures for Delhi. The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded a minimum of 6.4°C today, as against 5.6°C of yesterday. This was about 2°C below the normal. As per Pentad normal, the minimum temperature starts rising at the fag end of January. The last days of January and the first week of February have a normal minimum temperature of 9°-10°C. The temperatures rise further and stay in the range of about 12°-13°C during the second half of February.

A fresh western disturbance has arrived over North Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir region. The weather activity will remain confined to the mountains only, between 29th and 31st Jan. However, the wind pattern will start changing to have an easterly component. These are slightly warm and moist winds and will, therefore, lead to a rise in minimum temperatures. Another western disturbance will follow closely and stay over the hills between 01st and 02nd February 2025. In addition to the mountains, this system will have limited winter rains over Punjab and Haryana. Delhi stands a tiny chance of getting a sprinkle during this period.

An active western disturbance will arrive over the northern mountains between 03rd and 05th February. The system will be supported by induced cyclonic circulation over the plains. Together, there is a likelihood of a good spread of snow in the hills and rain and thundershowers in the plains, more authentically, on 03rd and 04th Feb. The intense weather activity is likely to cover Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The capital city Delhi will also get a decent spell of rain and thundershowers during this period. Even, hailstorm is expected at some places over the northern plains.

This week-long activity in the mountains and slightly reduced scale for the plains will result rise in the night temperatures. Delhi is expected to enter double-digit minima, yet again, between 31st Jan and 07th Feb 2025. The minimum could rise up to 12°-13°C, or even a shade higher, during this period. This active spell of rain will possibly compensate the margin of deficit rainfall, recorded in January.
