Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over Coastal Karnataka and active over rest of the places along the West Coast.
The Monsoon surge seems to have strengthened once again along the West Coast, right from Konkan & Goa to Kerala across Karnataka. Indications are there that the offshore trough will be more prominent in the coming days. Rainfall will increase in Kerala, Karnataka, Konkan & Goa. Many places in Coastal Mahrashtra, including Mumbai, will also start receiving good showers within next 24 hours.
Here’s a look at the rainfall figures along the West Coast in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Sunday:
In Coastal Karnataka, the rainfall deficit has mounted up to 25%. The rainfall deficit in Kerala is even more, at 26%.
Continuous Southwest Monsoon showers along the West Coast are expected to gradually reduce the persisting rainfall deficiency in the region. By the end of June, rain deficiency in the Coastal Karnataka and Kerala were 18% and 13%, respectively. These figures have been increasing due to subdued rainfall in the first half of July as the offshore trough remained weak.
The offshore trough will now strengthen and become more prominent. Normally, July and August are the rainiest months for West Coast.
